NOTE: This is your first assignment. It is an easy 10 points. You and a parent or guardian must read and sign this form and return it to me by Monday, August 15th. This should be kept in your Social Studies folder throughout the year.
- Do not be afraid to ask for help!!!
- I will always field questions after class and in the morning before school!!!
- What materials will you need in this classroom?
- Textbook/Techbook (We The People Techbook 1st 9 weeks, Discovery Education Techbook 2nd 9 weeks)
- Pen (black or blue ONLY!), pencil, and red pen (for grading ONLY.)
- Social Studies folder and notebook
- A FULLY CHARGED COMPUTER!!!
- Classroom Expectations
THE MAJOR EXPECTATIONS!
- Respect your classmates, your school staff, your teacher, and yourself!
- Do your own work! Cheating and plagiarism are serious offenses and will be punished accordingly.
- If you are being bullied by anyone or are having any trouble outside of the classroom, let me know!
Bullying and harassment will not be tolerated inside or outside of my room!
- Always be honest. Even if you have done something wrong, the best policy is to be honest and admit
what you’ve done so we can come to an appropriate resolution to the situation.
- When we have a guest teacher, treat them with the utmost respect!
- If someone has earned a title, we will address them by that title!
I feel that our nation is struggling to be at peace partially because there is a lack of respect for others. We will use the title Police Officer, Mr. or Mrs. President, Dr., Mr., Miss., or Mrs. whenever it is appropriate!!!
PROCEDURAL EXPECTATIONS
- Come to class prepared to work.
- When the bell rings you should be in your seat and working on the bell ringer for that day.
- Generally, you will not be allowed to leave the classroom to use the restroom unless it is an emergency! If you have to go to the bathroom make sure you go before class.
- Grading
- Grades will be weighted
- 60% Tests
- 40% Homework
- Grading Scale:
- 100-91=A 90-81=B 80-71=C 70-60=D 59-0=F
- Late work will be accepted at half credit if turned in no later than one week after it was originally collected.
- Bell Ringers, Homework, and Notes– Each student will receive a nine week organization grade. This grade is earned by writing down each bell ringer, keeping all notes, and holding onto all returned items in your folder.
- If you are absent, YOU are responsible for finding out the previous day’s activities. Utilize the homework page, your classmates, Canvas, and the teacher to find out the previous days assignments
- Group Work will be required at times throughout the year.
- Groups will usually be chosen by the students.
- Most group activities will have an individual grade and a group grade.
- Group work is a required part of 8th grade Social Studies
- Discipline Procedure – Three Strikes!
- I am typically an easy going guy! As long as you follow classroom expectations and school issues we will not have any issues! However if you are breaking a school rule or classroom expectation you will be given one strike. When you are given a strike it symbolizes a verbal warning, and will be followed by an explanation of what you did wrong and how that action can be corrected. If the behavior continues, or another rule or expectation is violated you will be given a second strike. If you continue to act in a way deemed inappropriate after that you will be given a third strike and sent to the dean of discipline for appropriate consequences. I will also have consequences I will give you that will be additional to what the dean determines.
- After receiving three strikes that student will only receive two strikes for the remainder of the semester. If a student who has violated the three, and then two strike rule, they will only receive one strike for the remained of the semester.
- Technology Procedures
- Since we will be using computers exclusively for this class we will need a new set of procedures and expectations for using them!
- For this class you need to…
- Always have your computer charged!
- Know how to access: PowerSchool, Canvas, the student drive, and the Techbooks!!!
- Know how to submit work on Canvas! This will be your only assignment this school year that will be turned in on paper! THE REST WILL BE ONLINE!
- Follow the 45 degree rule! If I say, “Screens at 45!” you need to put your screens down to a 45 degree angle so you cannot see it, and keep your hands off of the keys! This means I need your attention and don’t want you distracted by your devices!Severity Clause: Disciplinary action will be based on the severity of the issue.
Teacher/Student Contract
I have read and understand the expectations and procedures that will be used throughout this year in Mr. Wood’s classroom. (Do not forget that this is your first assignment of the year!!!)
